Iron Cactus Hosts Charity Golf Tournament for Marbridge

For the 18th consecutive year, Iron Cactus Mexican Grill & Margarita Bar hosted a charity golf tournament to raise funds for Marbridge, a non-profit residential community that offers transitional and lifetime care to adults with a wide range of cognitive abilities providing them opportunities to learn, experience and live a normal life.

Through this annual charity golf tournament held at Grey Rock Golf Club, Iron Cactus has raised more than $400,000 excluding this year’s tournament.  Last year alone, Iron Cactus raised $25,000 from the golf tournament.  The funds from last year’s and this year’s event will go to the construction of a new gymnasium named as Victory Hall Athletic and Events Center at Marbridge.  The name was suggested by its residents.

“We are thankful to our tournament sponsors and the golfers who play year in and year out,” said Gary Manley, General Partner at Iron Cactus. “With a new gymnasium, the residents of Marbridge will have a chance to learn and play new sports. It will also allow the Marbridge staff to host a variety of events and seminars.”

Iron Cactus Mexican Grill & Margarita Bar Declares Salsa Shortage in Texas; Expected to Run Out on April 1st

Austin, TX, March 28, 2013 – Iron Cactus Mexican Grill & Margarita Bar today announced that due to the unusually cold weather this year, there has been a significant shortfall of high-quality, vine-riped tomatoes, which the restaurant uses to create its award-winning salsas made fresh daily. The famous Tex-Mex dining establishment predicts that its two famous salsas, the warm-roasted and cold salsa, will run out by April 1st.

“We ask guests to visit our five locations on or before April 1st while we have salsas available,” stated Gary Manley, General Partner at Iron Cactus. “We will continue to offer our unlimited chips and salsas free of charge even as we face this crisis,” added Manley with conviction.

Iron Cactus, which has five locations in Texas including three in the Austin-area (6th St. in downtown Austin, North Austin and Hill Country Galleria), downtown Dallas and San Antonio Riverwalk, are all affected by the salsa shortage. Iron Cactus’ salsas are made daily with the freshest and finest ingredients. The restaurant will not compromise in its commitment to using only the best ingredients for its dishes, margaritas and desserts including its salsas.

“We will make it through this salsa shortage. We will know if the crisis is averted on April 2nd,” added Manley.

AWARD-WINNING MARGARITA BAR, IRON CACTUS, INTRODUCES THE ‘END OF THE WORLD’ MARGARITA NAMED THE MAYAN

The $100 margarita is the last margarita guests should drink if the world ends on
December 21st as the Mayans predicted; Only available from December 17th – December 20th

AUSTIN, TEXAS, December 12, 2012 — In case the world ceases to exist on December 21st as the Mayan calendar predicts, Iron Cactus Mexican Grill & Margarita Bar’s tribe of mixologists led by Gary Manley, co-owner and general partner of the award-winning margarita bar, has created a one-of-a-kind margarita aptly named, the Mayan. According to Manley and the Iron Cactus mixologists who helped create the $100 margarita, the Mayan is the last drink anyone should consume if the world ends on December 21st.

If the world does not end on December 21st, guests who have purchased the ‘end of the world’ concoction will be mailed a letter inviting them to return to have another Mayan margarita on the house.

“We created this special margarita by asking ourselves if the world ended tomorrow, what would our last margarita look and taste like,” said Manley. “Upon several trials and discussions, we came up with the Mayan margarita, and it is definitely worthy to be the last margarita anyone would want to drink.”

Typically, Iron Cactus does not share its original margarita recipes, but it has decided to make an exception with the Mayan margarita. Following is the recipe for the Mayan margarita:

1 1/2 oz. Deleón Reposado
3/4 oz. Grand Marnier 100 Year
1 1/4 oz. Fresh Lime Juice
1 1/4 oz. Agave Nectar

- Pour ingredients in an ice-filled shaker. Shake vigorously. Pour in a martini glass or glass of ice. Garnish with slice of lime wedge. Drink and kiss your loved ones good-bye (optional).

The Mayan margarita is available at all Iron Cactus locations.

Take A Tour Of The World Of Tequila

With its world-renowned reputation for providing good times, we sometimes forget that tequila has an extremely rich and authentic history.

Just as champagne can only hail from the Champagne region of France, tequila isn’t tequila unless it hails from one of five different Mexican states, thanks to an official decree. Here, a native plant known as the Tequiliana Weber Blue agave flourishes.

It’s hardly surprising that the blue agave is often mistaken for a cactus, given that it is extremely pointy. The blue agave is just one of many types of agave plants, but only the blue agave can provide the flavor of the spirit that eventually becomes tequila.

For countless centuries, the heart of the blue agave plant was fermented by Indians to make a sweet alcoholic brew known as pulque. After the Spanish arrived in the 16th century, they adapted the Indian trick and began brewing their own alcoholic version out of the agave, which makes a form of tequila the oldest surviving spirit of the New World.

The first licensed distillery began around 1600, and the drink continued to evolve over the centuries, until it was commercially exported to the United States in the 1880s.

The plants are carefully harvested over the years by highly trained jimadores. After harvesting, the precious liquid is extracted by crushing the “heart,” or pina of the plant. The liquid is allowed to ferment over several days. Following this, the result is distilled once or twice. The precious liquid then “rests” in smoked whiskey and scotch oak barrels imported from the United States and Europe. The length of time the tequila ages determines its nomenclature. Blanco is almost immediately bottled. The other extreme is Extra Anejo, which must remain at rest for a minimum of three years.

At Iron Cactus, we warmly embrace the lively world of tequila. We alone serve over 100 varieties of this original New World brew at our nationally-ranked Margarita Bar. Come sample from this extensive collection during our Tequila Tour at our North Austin location at 10001 Stonelake Boulevard on Thursday, September 20 beginning at 6pm. Live music and hors d’oeuvres will be enjoyed. You can purchase tickets in advance online and save here. Join us, as we celebrate this ancient brew in our uniquely authentic way.
